Garden Route

Family Vacation

So it’s Christmas time in South Africa and unlike the states it’s warm (might be an understatement it’s kinda hot) so we decided to use the time off to drive the World Famous Garden Route! The Garden Route is a popular and scenic stretch of the south-eastern coast of South Africa. It stretches from Mossel Bay in the Western Cape to the Storms River which is crossed along the N2 coastal highway over the Paul Sauer Bridge in the extreme western reach of the neighboring Eastern Cape. The name comes from the verdant and ecologically diverse vegetation encountered here and the numerous lagoons and lakes dotted along the coast. It includes towns such as Mossel Bay, Knysna, Oudtshoorn, Plettenberg Bay and Nature’s Valley; with George, the Garden Route’s largest city and main administrative center.

So from Pretoria where we live we’re going to drive down to Port Elizabeth (11Hrs) stay there with some friends for a few nights then over to Jeffery’s Bay (1Hr) stay there 2 nights and visit Humansdorp while there. Then on to George (3Hrs) stopping in Knysna on the way, we’ll stay in George for another 2 nights and we’ll visit Mossel Bay while there. Then over to Aevia & Mandla’s Place in Cape Town (4Hrs) where we’ll spend a week and bring in the new year while there! This should prove to be quite interesting as we’ve never driven this long with the kids before so pray for us…

To give you an over view of the ground we’re going to cover on this trip Here’s a screenshot from Google Maps:

We hope to post a few Albums of Pictures that we take along the way so check back soon to see them!

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
