Jamaica

Yes, Yes, Yes! As many of you know I wasn’t born in Jamaica I missed it by just a few months but being raised in a Jamaican home, going to a predominantly Jamaican Church, and growing up in St. Petersburg Florida where there are many Jamaicans served to create the man, husband, father, and friend that I am today. Actually to be perfectly honest there was a time I gravitated toward all things Jamaican wanting to identify with the country, land, and people that brought me into existence. Geoffery (my younger brother) and I got so good at speaking Patois (at least the American Older version of Patois) we started breaking it up into categories… You have Duty Patois – used around other Jamericans when you really want to go off, Accent Patois – just a slight hint of an accent to let people know your different or to let other Jamaicans know your from there, and Propa Patois – a refined more English/British accent type of Patois used usually around our parents friends or our friends parents and especially our female friends parents.

I’m laughing right now cause i’m remembering the many times we’ve used all the above versions in varying situations and it had just the “Right” effect if you can read between the lines. Anyway this post isn’t really about any of the above, I saw a YouTube video of an Jamerican Young Lady and her very Jamaican Dad who wanted to inform their American friends that Jamaicans are made up of people from all walks of life and I thought it was funny and want my parents and family to watch it but getting them to watch a YouTube Video on YouTube can be difficult hence the BlogPost, Enjoy!

I love this video because there was a time she would’ve been ashamed of her fathers accent but now she’s so proud she put him on YouTube! Heritage making sure we pass along to the up and coming generation what our parents gave us, truly warms my heart. The only thing I would suggest they change about this video is the Title:

he’s not a White Jamaican…

he’s just Jamaican.

Yeah, Kirk, I saw this video on Facebook and I was floored!!!!! Even though the whole point of the video is that Jamaicans come in all colors, it’s still pretty weird to see a white man talking like that. Maybe it’s just weird to me because I am an American because this video probably isn’t weird to the real Jamaicans.

Your right but i’ve watched enough YouTube and Jamaican News that I’m somewhat familiar with it by now. Ean was saying the same thing you’re saying as well. Lets see what Mom and Dad and the rest have to say…
